Epson XP 310 Wireless Color Photo Printer

Epson XP 310 Wireless Printer Highlights -

Pros: Inexpensive. Compact. Good quality prints in color and black/white.

Cons: Slow speed. Not suitable for high volume printing due to ink replacement cost. Duplex printing not supported.

The technology behind the Inkjet printer is pretty amazing. If you think for a minute, with just one click of a mouse button, an Inkjet printer will shoot millions of tiny droplets of precisely mixed ink through holes smaller than a pinhead quick enough to spit out multiple pages in minutes. In addition, all-in-one Inkjet printers have a built-in scanner, copier and an array of trays, feeders and networking hardware. All this for a price of less than $100, Inkjet printers don't get the credit that they deserve. It’s really a wonder that they work as well as they do. The downside? The main issue is the ink. Anyone who owns an Inkjet printer will often complain about ink cost, ink drying and ink clogging. So what makes a good all-in-one Inkjet printer? Aside from decent image quality, some of the features you should be looking for include good print speeds, support for wireless connectivity and mobile printing standards (like AirPrint and Google Cloud Print), ease of setup, duplex printing, automatic document feeder, individual ink cartridges for each color of ink and low printing cost.
The Epson Expression Home XP-310 all-in-one printer offers most of these features. At first glance, you'll notice just how small, compact and lightweight the printer is. Since it is an all-in-one printer, it supports multiple functionality - print, copy and scan. Unfortunately, the printer doesn't support sending and receiving faxes. The printing speed is not that great but it is fast enough for home and school use, as you'll get about 8 pages per minute when printing in black/white and 4 pages per minute when printing color photos. The printer supports wireless printing plus Wi-Fi Direct for direct printing. Apart from the capability to print from smartphones and tablets, the printer supports Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and Epson's own Epson Connect wireless printing solution.
The build quality is pretty good for the price and it is designed to fit in a small space. The printer also features a pull out tray for paper feed at the back and an additional small pull out tray to hold the paper when it comes out at the front. In addition, the XP-310 includes a foldable control panel at the front with a 1.44 inch LCD non-touch screen and some navigational buttons to go through the menu. The wireless set-up is easy as all you have to do is to turn it on and press a few buttons, it will automatically do the rest. There is no need for a USB cable to connect the printer to a computer. Overall. the printer is very easy to use.

The Epson XP-310 wireless color photo printer comes with 4 individual ink cartridges - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. Having individual cartridges is great as it allows the user to replace just the color of ink that has been expended. However, please note that if you run out of any color, the printer will not print even if it is a simple black text document. The replacement cartridges comes in standard and high capacity ink tanks. In accordance with the ISO standard, the ink yield for standard capacity black is about 175 pages and standard capacity color about 165 pages. For high capacity black, the yield is about 500 pages and high capacity color about 450 pages. So if you are using standard capacity ink cartridges, your printing cost comes to around 6 cents per page for black and about 5 cents for color. Ideally, a black/white print should cost less than 3 cents, and a color print should be around 10 cents or less. But, if you are going to use this printer for occasional home use then you can probably afford the convenience of having this printer on hand. As far as the print quality is concerned, we are pretty impressed. The texts look sharp and crisp and the colors look rich and vibrant. There is no smudging or streaking as soon as the pages come out. It is dry and ready to use straightaway. Even though you're not going to get professional looking photo prints, we think the quality is very decent for home use.
The Epson XP-310 also comes with a memory card slot, where you can simply put in a memory card from your digital camera, browse through the photos on the LCD screen and print wirelessly for PC-free photo printing The printer measures 5.7 x 11.8 x 15.4 inches and weighs 11.4 pounds.

ReviewsBucket's Verdict:
For the average home user and students alike, the Epson XP-310 wireless color photo printer is a great choice. It does everything you'll need from wireless printing through to scanning documents while taking up very little desk space. There are couple of things you need to consider before buying this printer. It is not meant for high volume printing, nor it is meant for printing high quality professional photos. Also, there is no support for automatic duplex printing. In addition, it is not the fastest Inkjet printer currently available. However, if you are using this printer in a home environment and will mostly print documents in black/white with occasional photo printing, then the above points should not be a big issue. Overall, this printer is excellent for the price. If you're looking for a printer with a solid set of features and a modest price tag, we highly recommend this printer. Please note, there is also an updated version of this printer with a 2.5 inch LCD touch screen control panel - Epson Expression XP-410 wireless color all-in-one Inkjet printer.
