HP 15P030NR Special Edition Touchscreen Laptop

HP 15-p030nr Highlights -

Pros: Great value. Touchscreen display. Decent specifications. Amazing design and looks.

Cons: Mixed reviews about Beats Audio sound quality. A bit heavy. Battery life is not great.

There are two things that stand out about the special edition HP 15-p030nr laptop: the way it looks and the fact that it features sound by Beats Audio. Nowadays, laptops are being used as an all in one entertainment device for watching movies and streaming videos, so it is increasingly becoming more important that they have a good sound system. HP 15-p030nr major selling point is the Beats Audio sound system that promises to deliver the richest audio experience available on a laptop. Also, the laptop stands out with it's vibrant red and black casing and the Beats logo everywhere you look. It is definitely eye catching and will appeal to the younger generation like students and young working professionals. The laptop's specifications are not bad either. It is powered by an AMD A8 processor with 8GB of memory and 1TB storage space. The big 15.6 inch touchscreen will definitely suit users who like to play games or watch movies on this laptop. All this for a price tag of less than $600 definitely makes this a "special edition" laptop.

Performance - HP 15-p030nr is powered by a low-voltage AMD Quad-Core A8-5545M processor. The processor features four cores clocked at 1.7GHz that can go as high as up to 2.7GHz in Turbo Mode. For today's demanding applications that require a lot of power, a quad core processor is a much better option as it is able to load applications much faster. The processor also includes integrated AMD Radeon HD 8510G graphics with approx. 4GB total memory. As far as the performance of this processor is concerned, it is definitely better than some of Intel's Core i3 processors, but when compared to the Intel Core i5 family of processors, you'll have to decide whether you'll use this laptop primarily for gaming or for running multiple productivity tasks where faster multitasking performance is required. Intel Core i5 processors are quite powerful when it comes to processing power but are not suitable for gaming as they have weaker on board graphics. In contrast, the AMD A8's distinguishing feature is its powerful onboard graphics card even though it is a bit slower in general. So, if you're after better performance then go for laptops with Core i5 processors offered in laptops like the Toshiba Satellite C55-A5355, but if you're really after a reasonably fast quad-core processor with improved graphics, then we highly recommend AMD's A8 processor. The laptop is quite capable and handles video editing and other heavy applications well. Also, it is capable of handling most modern games.
Storage & Memory - The laptop comes with 8GB of DDR3L memory and 1TB (5400RPM) storage space. These specifications are bit more than what you'll find in most average laptops. The memory is great for multitasking without putting too much strain on the system and the storage space allows you to store a large amount of multimedia files and office documents. The memory can be further upgraded to 16GB to suit your requirements.
Display & Sound - The 15.6 inch diagonal high definition BrightView WLED-backlit touchscreen display with 1366x768 pixels resolution provides decent video and image clarity. The picture is sharp and the colours look vibrant. The capacitive touchscreen is responsive and the screen is nice and clear. We like the fact that HP has added touchscreen capability thereby making it very easy and convenient to use Windows 8. As mentioned, the main highlight of the laptop is the Beats Audio with a built-in subwoofer. Although some user reviews have mentioned that they were not impressed with the sound quality, we still think that this is one of the best sounding laptops available in the market.
Battery - The 4-cell lithium-ion battery offers a battery life of up to 4 hours.
Operating System - Windows 8.1.

HP 15-p030nr features decent connectivity options including 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, a SuperMulti DVD burner, multi-format digital media card reader and a headphone/microphone combo jack. For network connectivity there is 802.11b/g/n WLAN wireless, 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN and Bluetooth connectivity. Also, the laptop comes with a front facing HD webcam with an integrated dual array digital microphone which is pretty much standard in most laptops. The back lit keyboard looks great, however the touchpad has a mind of it's own. We recommend using a separate mouse. The laptop measures 15.14 x 10.24 x 0.99 inches and weighs 5.99 pounds which some users may find a bit heavy to carry around.

ReviewsBucket's Verdict:
HP 15-p030nr is a beautifully designed laptop that is eye catching with built in features and specifications that will meet most users requirements. Even though the most advertised feature of this special edition laptop is the Beats Audio, we have heard mixed reviews about the sound quality, Nevertheless, to us the sound quality is better than what you'll find in most laptops. The AMD A8 processor along with 8GB of memory is fast enough to suit your daily computing needs. The touchcreen is great so is the laptop's modern looks and design. We suggest you click on the buy now button and see it for yourself.
Please note: HP has also come out with a special edition tablet - HP Slate 7-4501 and an All In One touchscreen desktop HP ENVY 23, both of which feature Beats Audio.
