Linksys EA6700 Smart Wireless Router AC1750

Linksys EA6700 Highlights -

Pros: Compliant with latest 802.11ac technology. Fast performance.

Cons: Frequent dropped connections.

Linksys EA6700 is built with the latest in wireless technology (802.11ac). It is also backward compatible with devices based on older technology (802.11a/b/g/n). In simple terms, the router can be connected to older devices even if they don't support the latest technology. Users can experience speeds of up to 1300Mbit 802.11ac augmented by 450Mbit 802.11n, which means that it is approximately 3x faster than Wireless-N. Linksys EA6700 features dual bands (2.4GHz + 5GHz) that doubles the network bandwidth to avoid interference and maximize throughput. The router also comes with four Gigabit Ethernet ports and two USB ports (one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0) for sharing and connecting wired devices like a printer over the local network. It is wall mountable and features a matt grey finish that resists dust and fingerprints.

TrustedReviews (a technology review site) was able to measure the performance of Linksys EA6700: at a test distances of 2 metres line of sight, 10 metres line of sight and 13 metres between two solid walls, Linksys EA6700 recorded average 802.11ac speeds of 257.5 megabits/sec, 246.4 megabits/sec and 172 megabits/sec respectively. In short, these speeds will be able to handle anything your internal network can throw at them, including multiple streams of high definition videos. Also, the 6 internal antennas provide superior range. However, we would like to point out that we have come across some reviews that mention that the router suffers from frequent dropped connections.

Linksys EA6700 features a 'Smart WiFi' (formerly known as Cisco Connect Cloud - see video above) which enables you to access your router from any location or using Linksys' smartphone app to adjust certain parental settings, control guest access, add or remove devices and other settings. The EA6700 also features 'SimpleTap' which allows users to touch the bundled SimpleTap card to an NFC-enabled device and easily connect to the network. The router allows for guest access too, if you want someone to temporarily access your wireless network. It is IPv6 enabled (latest Internet Protocol technology) to futureproof your network and comes with advanced security features like WPA2 encryption, SPI firewall and Wi-Fi Protected setup push button.

ReviewsBucket's Verdict:
We have mixed feelings about Linksys EA6700. Although it offers very good performance and features, we have come across many buyer reviews mentioning poor product support and frequent dropped connections. Having said that, there are very few wireless routers which supports 802.11ac. It could be worth keeping on your list of wireless routers to consider.
