The device serves multiple purposes: it can instantly share any public internet connection with firewall protection, act as a wireless router or access point, it can extend the range of an existing wireless network (e.g. in the home) or as a bridge for ethernet-enabled devices (e.g. TVs, Blu-ray players, etc). When accessing a public network, Netgear Trek N300 would be ideal as it creates a highly secure and private wireless network. The device can be plugged directly into a wall power socket, or it can be plugged into a laptop using a USB cable. Netgear Trek N300 is based on 802.11b/g/n wireless standards and capable of operating on 2.4 GHz at speeds of up to 300 Mbps. It maintains a high level of security with WPA/WPA2 to ensure privacy for you and your family's safety while online. There is also a switch on the side that can be toggled between a wireless and wired network.

Netgear Trek N300 comes with an Ethernet port for connecting to the internet and another one for providing internet connection to a wired device. There is also a flip-out antenna that increases the wireless coverage of the device. One USB 2.0 port provides the added convenience for sharing a printer or media files. As mentioned, the device can also be powered by a USB cable through the microUSB port.

Netgear Trek N300 can be easily setup and it comes with it's own management app for Android and iOS devices called the Netgear Genie. The Netgear Genie allows monitoring and controlling of the network from a PC, Mac, tablet or a smartphone. Netgear Genie can even let users share and stream music or videos, diagnose and repair network issues and set up parental controls. The device measures 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 1-1/4 inches.
