Cons: Slow. No wired network support. A bit bulky.

Canon makes excellent products and their printers are no different. The Canon PIXMA MX472 All-In-One Inkjet printer offers printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities in one compact package, ideal for home and small office use. The printer features high-resolution, full-color printing with a resolution of up to 4800x1200 dpi as well as speeds of up to 9.7 black ipm (images per minute) and 5.5 color ipm. IPM measures the number of regular A4 pages printed in one minute and is measured by printing three sets of test documents (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Portable Document Format files) - each consisting of four pages. The documents contain a single photograph, along with corporate logos, diagrams and graphs, but the emphasis is on textual rather than graphical information. IPM provides a more accurate method of comparing printers as opposed to PPM (page per minute). The 4-color cartridge system of the MX472 uses magenta, cyan, yellow, and black inks to produce texts and images. Additionally, the printer features Canon's FINE technology (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) to produce ink droplets as small as 2 pl (picolitre).
The MX472 uses a 100-sheet paper feeder tray capable of handling documents up to 8.5 x 14 inches, or legal size. Users can also use the 8.5 x 11.7 inches flatbed for high resolution 1200x2400 dpi scans, or a 30-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF). The ADF can also be used for copying and faxing, where it can produce color copies at a speed of up to 4.7 ipm and transmit faxes in about 3 seconds. Please note, the printer doesn't have automatic duplex printing capabilities.
Canon PIXMA MX472 features wireless connectivity allowing users to take advantage of the printer's Google Cloud Print. The wireless mobile printing is also supported through Apple's AirPrint or with Canon's free Apple iOS and Android apps, for printing to and scanning from the printer. Even if the printer isn't on the wireless network, users can directly connect the printer to their mobile device via Canon's Access Point mode which is similar to Wi-Fi Direct. The AirPrint functionality will be especially useful for users who are heavily reliant on iOS devices.
The printer set-up is relatively straightforward and doesn't take long. We feel that the printer takes a bit of desk space and is quite bulky. It is very solidly built.

According to PCMag, the speed of the Canon PIXMA MX472 was unimpressive. It came in at only 2.3 ppm which makes it a bit slow. However, the output quality was judged to be quite good as texts and graphics came out reasonably well. Users can expect to comfortably print good quality photos too. However, please note that color photo printing will use up a lot of ink. All three color inks are contained in one single cartridge, so if one of the color inks dries up, the entire cartridge will need to be replaced, even if all of the other inks' levels are still okay. Users should take the ink cost into consideration as one set of replacement ink cartridges is about half the cost of the printer. The ink replacement cost however is similar to it's competitors in this segment of the market. If the printer is predominantly used for small volume printing, then this should not be an issue. The scan quality is generally good as well. However, scanning may feel slow to some users.
Canon PIXMA MX472 doesn't come with a Ethernet port which is bit disappointing. As with most PIXMA printers, it comes with My Image Garden software which allows for easy photo organization complete with facial recognition, calendar, filters, layout suggestions and more. Also, Canon's exclusive Creative Park Premium allows users of genuine Canon inks access to a variety of photos, projects and templates. The printer measures 18.1 x 15.2 x 7.9 inches and weighs 18.4 pounds.

ReviewsBucket's Verdict:
Canon PIXMA MX472 offers multiple benefits for those looking for a an affordable home or home-office printer. With wireless connectivity, users have the flexibility to manage print jobs with ease. The printer is inexpensive, easy to set-up, and delivers decent print quality. It does text and graphics well, but is not designed for photos or high volume printing. For high volume printing, users should consider a laser printer like the Samsung Xpress C460W multifunction printer. You could also consider Canon PIXMA MX452 which offers very similar features and is a bit cheaper.
