Performance - The 1.6GHz Intel Celeron N3060 dual-core processor runs only very basic operations albeit smoothly and efficiently. However, for a machine of this size and price, you can’t ask for anything more than that. The limitations are pretty obvious, most modern PC games won’t run. The same goes for Photoshop or anything else that’s even remotely graphics intensive. That doesn’t mean that this laptop is without its own perks. Video and music streaming works great. Not only can the HP Stream 11 run typical applications like Word and Excel, and run them pretty well, it also comes with Office 365 Personal for a year. On the web-browsing side, the HP Stream 11 is a little more competent than your average Chromebook and can handle a fair amount of multiple browser tabs. Overall, we really can’t fault its performance when it comes to basic computing tasks. Additionally, the latest version of Windows 10 with this laptop gives you the ultimate experience when it comes to running computer programs quickly and efficiently. Windows 10 also offers the latest security updates. That way, you don’t have to worry as much with regards to malware getting through to your computer.
Storage & Memory - This laptop has 4GB of RAM (memory) to help run programs in the background. While that’s not a huge amount to run multiple programs simultaneously, it does give you enough working memory to perform basic tasks such as listening to music, checking email, word processing and downloading files from the Internet.
The hard drive features a 32GB eMMC solid state storage (SSD). This is around the lowest amount of hard drive storage you can fit into this size of laptop. Again, whilst this isn’t the best available, it works for this machine. Also, the Office 365 suite allows you to have 1TB of cloud-based storage to save your multimedia files, slide shows and more. Nowadays, just about every computer needs some kind of cloud storage, and that’s definitely true for laptops with internet connectivity.
Display, Graphics & Sound - The HP Stream Laptop PC 11-y010nr features a screen size of 11.6 inches with an option for a slightly more expensive version that has a 14 inch screen. However, the image quality is a bit inferior for both. With a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, the image quality is always going to be low, so if you’re hoping to use this primarily for tasks like photo editing and making video calls, you might want to consider another option. But for its price, you will still get some decent graphics and visuals. Also, you should probably consider buying external speakers, headphones or earbuds if you are looking for better sound quality.

The computer has a headphone jack and you can also input your other peripheral devices through a USB 2.0 port. It also comes with a 3.1 port for faster data transfer rates. Additionally there is a HDMI port for connecting to an external monitor and an SD card reader. The Wi-Fi antenna (802.11ac) works great for a home-based network, connecting to university networks or finding public access points.
The battery lasts for up to 5 hours even though the advertised life is about 10 hours. Obviously, this will vary depending on what you do on the laptop. If you’re just performing basic word processing functions/web-browsing or doing one task at a time, the battery charge lasts much longer.
Even though this model has a smaller screen, you have a full-sized keyboard for easier typing and we find it to better than the Toshiba Chromebook 2 (CB35-C3300). The touchpad, unfortunately whilst functional, is not all that great. We experienced a few misclicks when used and overall it didn’t feel all that precise.
As mentioned, the addition of Microsoft Office 365 is a huge benefit that you get with this machine. You will receive a one-year subscription from the time you purchase your machine. Make sure to activate it within six months of buying it.

Alternative/Similar Products:
If you want something a little different from this laptop, but you still need the same features, here are some options that are worth considering. HP’s 14-an013nr notebook computer is a 14 inch laptop and has much the same features as the Stream 11. Also, ASUS makes the E200HA-UB02-GD portable laptop, which features an 11.6 inch screen with similar memory and speed.

ReviewsBucket's Verdict:
The HP Stream Laptop PC 11-y010nr is a great choice for students because it has everything you need to finish your homework or that important paper. The lightweight design comes in at less than three pounds. This means you can take this laptop anywhere you need to go, whether you have class, work or an on-location assignment. This is also a great laptop if you want basic entertainment options on the go. Obviously, it is not a powerful machine but it is worth every penny you spend. When using programs that take up a lot of memory, you might consider closing down other programs rather than running them all simultaneously in the background. The other drawback is it’s screen quality. The Stream is not a great option as it lacks full HD resolution. But if neither of these things are a problem for you and all you really want is a budget laptop to use exclusively for light web-browsing and MS Office, the Stream is a really good bargain. Whether you work, study, play or connect, this laptop hits the sweet spot for functionality, connectivity, style and value.
